Itinerary
DAY 1 USA / SHANNON, IRELAND: Depart on your overnight flight to Shannon, Ireland. DAY 2 ARRIVE SHANNON / CLIFFS MOHER / GALWAY: Welcome to Ireland! After collecting your bags, you will meet with your driver in the arrivals hall at Dublin Airport. Shortly afterwards, depart and head west towards the Atlantic coastline. Pause at the Cliffs of Moher, rising 700 feet above the pounding Atlantic waves. From the cliffs on a clear day one can see the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. O’Brien’s Tower stands near the highest point and has served as a viewing point for visitors for hundreds of years. Afterwards, pause in Doolin for an early pub lunch. This afternoon, a special treat at Rathbaun Farm where you learn from the farmer about sheep shearing and herding. Afterwards, enjoy coffee and scones, fresh from the oven. Continue to Galway for dinner and overnight. (L/D)
DAY 3 CONNEMARA EXCURSION: After breakfast, depart on a full-day excursion in Connemara. Whitewashed cottages are scattered over a land of rocky mountains, sparkling brooks and rivers. Pause Ros Muc for a photo stop. It was here that Patrick Pearse, writer, educator, and leader of the 1916 Rising built a cottage for himself on the shores of Loch Oiriúlach in 1909. Afterwards, head out to the westernmost point of County Galway, Slyne Head. Onwards to Clifden for free time to enjoy lunch. Stop for to visit the beautiful Kylemore Abbey, a castellated neo-Gothic mansion, occupied since 1920 by the Irish Benedictine community of Nuns. Onwards to visit the Connemara Marble Factory before returning to Galway where your evening is free. (B)
DAY 4 GALWAY / CASTLEBAR / BELLEEK / DONEGAL: Enjoy breakfast before departing from Galway and heading north towards Donegal. Pause in Castlebar to visit the Museum of Country Life. See collections of domestic goods in daily use from 1850 to 1950. Exhibits and a movie explain how rural people made a living from the soil. Continue on to Belleek to visit the visitor center at Belleek Pottery. When you step into the world of Belleek pottery, you step back in history. The museum contains pieces dating back to when the pottery was started in 1857. Enjoy demonstrations and chat with the craftspeople. Afterwards, continue to Donegal for dinner and overnight. (B/D)
DAY 5 DONEGAL: This morning after a leisurely breakfast, travel to Glenveagh National Park and visit Glenveagh Castle. This 19th century castellated mansion and was built between 1867 and 1873. Its construction in a remote mountain setting was inspired by the Victorian idyll of a romantic highland retreat. Afterwards, travel through the rugged countryside of Donegal. Enjoy spectacular scenery of heathery hills and deep valleys. In Ardara visit Triona Design to sample freshly-baked scones with tea and see demonstrations of spinning and weaving. Return to Donegal for overnight. (B)
DAY 6 DONEGAL / DERRY: After breakfast at the hotel, depart and make your way towards Derry. On arrival, enjoy an afternoon at leisure in Derry. This evening, enjoy dinner in your hotel. (B/D)
DAY 7 DERRY / GIANT’S CAUSEWAY / BELFAST: After breakfast, depart from Derry and take in the natural beauty of the northern coast. Pause at the Giant’s Causeway and take in the natural beauty of the northern coast. Walk around admiring the hexagonal rock columns and gaze out at the crashing waves along the dramatic coastline. Afterwards, continue on to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. Fishermen erected the bridge to Carrick-a-Rede Island over a 23m-deep and 20m-wide chasm to check their salmon nets. The rope bridge originally consisted of a single rope hand rail which has been replaced by a two hand railed bridge by the National Trust. Once you reach Carrick Island, the reward is seeing the diverse birdlife and an uninterrupted view across to Rathlin Island and Scotland. There is only one way off the island - back across the swinging bridge! Afterwards, continue towards Belfast where you have some free time before dinner in your hotel. (B/D)
DAY 8 GAME OF THRONES & TITANIC: After breakfast, depart to experience the real Westeros with a visit to the Winterfell Castle movie set at Castle Ward a beautiful 1000 acre sprawling demesne used for filming the epic adaption of George RR Martins Game of Thrones novels. Your tour guide will show you around Winterfell Castle & Demesne sharing fascinating stories about how the film sets where created onsite and some insider gossip about what the cast got up to behind-the-scenes. Your guide will also show you exclusive behind-the-scenes video clips, notebooks, and photographs from the actual filming days. Afterwards, continue towards Belfast where you stop to visit the newly opened Titanic Belfast. It is in the heart of the city, on the slipways where RMS Titanic was built. You truly re-live the entire Titanic story from her birth in Belfast to the fateful maiden voyage and her eventual discovery on the seabed. Your evening is free. (B)
DAY 9 BELFAST / DUBLIN: After breakfast, depart from Belfast and make your way towards Dublin. This evening, immerse yourself in Dublin's rich literary heritage on a literary pub crawl through Dublin. This walking tour is a wonderful introduction to Dublin's literary past and exciting pub culture. On this tour that's as educational as it is recreational, you'll embark on an animated and entertaining journey through the sights and sounds that inspired great Irish writers including James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Brendan Behan, Sean O'Casey, Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde, and W.B. Yeats - not forgetting modern scribes like Seamus Heaney, Eavan Boland, Paula Meehan, and Brendan Kennelly. You are free to enjoy dinner on your own. (B) DAY 10 DUBLIN: Enjoy a day at leisure in Dublin. This evening, experience an enchanting evening of Irish folklore and storytelling while enjoying a candlelit traditional Irish dinner in The Brazen Head, Dublin's oldest Pub. (B/D)
DAY 11 DUBLIN / USA: After breakfast, bid farewell to Ireland as transfers begin to Dublin airport, where after check-in you will have plenty of time for your last-minute duty-free shopping. Your flight to the US arrives the same day. Have a safe journey! (B)
